TAKING THE MAINE STATE FERRY
North Haven is an island in Mid Coast Maine that lies twelve miles off Rockland. The Ferry Terminal in Rockland serves Vinalhaven, North Haven and Matinicus. It can be confusing, even for folk that take the ferry often. Please be sure to ask staff in the terminal and the ferry staff before boarding to make sure you are getting on the right ferry.
The ferry makes three trips a day to North Haven. It leaves Rockland at 9:30 a.m., 2:15 p.m., and 5:15 p.m. Trips leave North Haven at 7:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:45 p.m. The ride is approximately one hour each way. Information on ferry rates, reservations for cars, bringing bikes and more can be attained by calling the North Haven office at 207-867-4441. Click here for the Maine State Ferry Service schedule. It can be difficult to get a car on and off the island during our peak summer season. Passengers may walk on and enjoy the ride.
There is a grocery store about 2 1/2 miles from town (from the ferry landing). During the summer there are two restaurants open. If you are coming for the day you may want to pack a picnic lunch. It is a pleasant island to walk on. Foggy Meadows Farm is located three miles from town off Crabtree Point Road.
